Oil extracted from the underlying stratum may contain large amounts of natural gas. Natural gas is dissolved in the oil under the formation due to the pressure. Once the pressure is released, a large amount of natural gas will overflow, and a lot of foam will form.
When the oil and water are separated, the foam is also generated due to factors such as shearing or agitation.
